DESIGN PROCESS
About Powertex and our goals
-
Initial Ideas
Inspiration can come from a number of sources – a commission request, a gallery ‘Call for Artists’ for a specific exhibition theme, or simply from the recycled materials & textures available at the time of conception.
Sometimes the vision of how the finished work will look snaps into instant focus, whilst other pieces start with a small seed & grow organically as ideas develop.
-
Materials
Wherever possible, recycled natural fibre materials are used in all work, coupled with environmentally friendly art products to produce Art with a Conscience.
As a result, each piece of art is unique, governed in part by the materials & textures available at the time the piece is produced.
The majority of work is suitable for year round outdoor display, making it perfect for either a home or garden setting.
-
Powertex
The Powertex product range is Liz Dixon’s preferred medium & is used in the majority of her work.
Powertex has proven its success throughout Europe, North America, South Africa and Australia over more than 15 years, before arriving in the UK in 2011.
At the core of the Powertex range is a versatile, environmentally friendly, acid free, water based textile hardener which gives form and structure to natural fibre materials & textiles.
Additional products such as Stone Art, colour pigments and Powerprint allow the creation of amazing indoor and outdoor artwork in both abstract & more figurative styles.

Finishing Touches
Artwork & Sculpture are finished using a mix of matt & metallic powder pigments mixed with a wax-based varnish & applied using hand-brushing techniques.
In this way, layers of pigment can be built up to produce depth of colour whilst enhancing the natural textures of the base materials.
Commissioned pieces can be hand finished to your requirements to compliment an existing décor or to stand out & make a statement.
This is what makes each piece of Liz Dixon Art truly unique
